Noon

It's noon on a Saturday and this will probably be my only chance to blog today. I'm working a monster shift of 2-11 at work today into tonight. That is a long time in anyone's book, but I do get tomorrow off, which means, I can ignore watching the Super Bowl like I do every year. To top it off, I will eat like crazy and say it's a Super Bowl party. My friend, Joe put his Super Bowl predictions, so I thought I'd throw in my two to three cents. Patriots will in 35-17 and New England will once again have to celebrate their football team and talk about how their baseball team are perpetual losers and chokers. Let's go Pats. Besides, there is no way He Hate Me will win a Super Bowl.

Friday

When I used to go to school (damn, that feels weird to write), Friday's were like a gift. No more classes for a full two days. I could just sit down not worry about school, and relax. This nirvana only lasted two days and come Monday morning I'd be back in the swing of things. Now, as I am inbetween school and career, Friday is just another day. It doesn't get to me the same as usual. Hell, half the time I wake up and have no clue what day it is. The weekend's are still fun since Dolores is off, but it just seems to lack its luster of my school career. With that, I am here at my laptop in Dolores' room typing away while she's in class. I thought I could just bang out some random thoughts I have in my head.

First off, I think my blog last night is one of the best I've ever written. Dolores read it and acutally lol'ed. Now I don't know if it was because it was stupid, but I liked it. Sometimes when I sit down to write (not only a blog but other things I work on) I can tell when I am writing something better than what I normally do. I just sit down and my fingers or pen are an open channel and it just flows. That's what happened last night, I had an idea and ran with it and I think in my humble opinion it turned out pretty damn good.

As many of you may or may not know, Dolores in my sophomore year got me hooked on a little television show called Days of Our Lives. It's a soap opera but it's a pretty good one. Recent storylines have a serial killer roaming through their town of Salem. The big hoopla for weeks, even months was, who was this serial killer? The big shocker came on Wednesday when they revealed who it was. Unfortunately, Dolores and I had figured it out about 3 weeks ago. Still, it was fun to be right. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm boasting, but if you're reading this now, you know me pretty well and can surely deduct I don't have much to boast about (no school, no job, etc etc). So I got it right!

The Rangers. The New York FUCKING Rangers. I can't believe I am still a fan of this team. I don't think there was ever a collection of superstar players who played as bad as the Rangers have in all of sports history. If you talk about underachieving, take a look at this team. I can think of at least 10 players off the top of my head who have played in All-Star games, hell, 3 of them have won the Hart Trophy for League MVP. And they suck. It's even better now that Lindros joins the injured list with Kasparitis, DeVries and Bure. This one might be for the rest of his career though as 8 concussions in 4 years is never good. I knew this would happen. I complained when we got him when we could've gotten Jagr (who we ended up getting anyway) and I just knew it. This was going to be bad. Anyway, I'm getting pissed just thinking about it, at least I have this Wednesday to look forward too, and if you don't know what that day is, I'll blog about it extensively I'm sure. (TEASER!)

As I bring this rollercoaster blog to a close, I would like to say I haven't forgotten about the Butterfly Effect review, I just need to get motivated enough to write it:-). Maybe this weekend? The NYR blog is coming soon, but I think I'll wait till next week. Have a nice weekend.

The Junior Mint

It was a moment of television history. One simple word changing the history of television. As Jerry Seinfeld yelled out this word out of his window in The Junior Mint episode of his TV series, we all knew we had experienced something we will never forgot. For some, this memory is pleasant. For others, this would provide a sharp stinging pain in their hearts, a very big bruise on their egos, and a lifetime of frustration. What could cause such an event of monumental proportions? What single word could cause all these people to either laugh or groan collectively??WHAT COULD IT BE??

DOLORES

Yes, Dolores. See, what happened was Jerry's newest fling had told him that she was teased constantly as a child for having a name that rhymed with a female body part. The thing is, Jerry couldn't figure out what that name could be. In fact, Mulva was the best he came up with. Except, when the ending came, and Jerry yelled out that name, Dolores. What followed was pure outrage by those named Dolores, and probably mass confusion for those not familiar with the female body. For the sake of the unlearned, it was supposed to be that Dolores in fact rhymed with clitoris. Many have argued that the two words do not rhyme. In fact, my girlfriend, who is named Dolores, will swear on her life that it doesn't. Some disagree. A brief look through online dictionaries provide only cryptic scripts that only the most genius people can decipher. I for one am on the side of Dolores. This episode was a travesty for those named Dolores. Perhaps we'll never cure this injustice. I just hope that those reading take my side, call up the people who air Seinfeld and ask they remove this slanderous episode from rotation forever.

Blogging for the sake of blogging

Basically, the title says it all. I just got back from work and I wanted some sort of literary contribution to Blogger tonight. So here it is. Also, this just in: My girlfriend rocks and I love her. Dolores, you're the best girlfriend EVER! Goodnight!

Let It Snow?

It's supposed to snow tonight like 18 inches. That sucks. I like snow as much as the next person, but c'mon. This is ridiculous. Way too much snow this year. Especially if I'm going to have to drive in it the next few days to work. Hopefully D will have off tomorrow though so we can relax. Anyway, that's all I have to say for now. I'll blog later on tonight if I have any moving, or just any, thoughts.

Review for Along Came Polly

As promised, here is my review for Along Came Polly.

The Main Characters

  • Reuben Feffer (Ben Stiller)- Reuben is a risk-analyst who decides to get married. When he finds his wife cheating on him on their honeymoon, he stops being so cautious and starts finding out how fun and exciting life can be
  • Polly Prince (Jennifer Aniston)- Polly is a rather flighty girl who can never settle still. She is the one who Reuben pursues after he comes back from his honeymoon.
  • Sandy Lyle (Philip Seymour Hoffman)- Sandy is Reuben's rather eccentric friend who is still living off the fame of a bit part he had in a hit movie
  • Lisa Kramer (Debra Messing)- Wife of Reuben

The Setting

This movie takes place in New York City.

The Plot

We start with Reuban getting married to Lisa. The two go off on their honeymoon to some beautiful tropic location. While there, Lisa and Reuben are offered scuba lessons by a naked man named Claude. They decide to go for the lessons but at the last minute Reuben declines. He comes back to find his wife cheating on him with Claude! Reuben of course leaves and goes back to New York City where his friend, Sandy, tries to console him. They go out to a party where Reuben runs into Polly Prince, a women he hasn't met since about 4th grade. Reuben then decides he is going to ask Polly out, which is totally against his usual study-every-risk self. Of course, problems arise when Lisa comes back for Reuben and Polly finds out that Reuben put Lisa vs. Polly on his risk management program to see which one had the least amount of risk.

My Review

This movie is a comedy, so you don't expect much out of the plot, and basically the plot is very simple. Movies like this rely on being funny and this movie sort of succeeds. It is a funny movie. I only had one major complaint. No offense to Philip Seymour Hoffman, but the part of Sandy Lyle was totally written for Jack Black. The maneurisms, the delivery, everything screamed Jack Black. Other than that, it was what it was. It had its funny moments and its gross-out humor. It was just your average comedy. Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston were pretty good too. If you want to see a really hilarious Stiller movie, I'd say you'd be better off with Meet the Parents, and a better Aniston movie is Bruce Almighty, but they did have pretty good chemistry

Overall Rating

Take it for what it is, your average Hollywood comedy. Don't expect too much from the plot or character development. Just sit back relax and enjoy the movie.

Not much to say today

Hey all, I don't have much to say right now and I'm gonna get off the computer soon anyway.

Anyway, I saw Butterfly Effect today (review coming in a few days) and I just wanted to say that the movie was AWESOME. Definitely go see it. Also, I am going to start working on the Along Came Polly review so that should be up shortly. I am also working on the New York Rangers blog I have been talking about so expect that sometime this week or next. I dunno, I like to keep a schedule of what to blog about.

Anyway, I'm going now, I hope you all had a nice weekend and enjoy your week!

Saturday Thoughts

Not too much to say today, so I guess I'll put some of my random thoughts in bulleted form today. Starting now:

  • Went to the CK/Molloy Game last night and it was pretty fun. Nice to put the T vs. D series to an end (well, for high schools at least). Unfortunately, CK won 54-44. Dolores won the series 2-1. It was fun though
  • The Rangers acquired Jaromir Jagr and are currently trailing the Senators 7-0. That tells you how the trade has been so far. Looks like another year they'll miss the playoffs.
  • I'm off tonight for the third night in a row. THIS ROCKS!
  • As you know I'm a huge wrestling fan and maintain a wrestling tape site (link is on the side somewhere). In my free time I have been redoing the site. I had originally done it with a program (Cool Page) before I knew HTML so it's been a journey going through all the code (it's like 140 pages or so) to get it the way I want it. I am not even 10% done yet so I can't wait till that is done. That's usually what I have been up too these days. Working on the website.
  • As you may know, I hardly go online anymore. Truth is, I really don't like it that much anymore. I used to go online all the time but now I really can't stand it. There's only like 3 people I talk to online anyway. Just wanted to throw that thought out there.
  • Another random thought. I really like doing movie reviews on here. I think I might start doing reviews of some other things I watch, like The Beatles Anthology DVD I am currently watching. We'll see how much writing I want to do though :-).

Well, that ends another blog. God willing I will be on the computer tomorrow writing another blog. Have a good night.

7th Day in a Row!

This is my seventh blog over the past 7 days, which means that so far I have blogged everyday since I restarted blogging. This is accomplishment has not gone unnoticed by my peers. Joe himself told me in confidence that he blogged because of my "consistency." Thanks, Joe. Read his all new and all great blog right HERE.

Even though I have blogged for the past week, I haven't really said what has been up with me. Well, last night D and I had planned on going to a New York Rangers game. We were going to go but at the 11th hour decided we were too tired and stayed in. Good thing too, b/c the Rangers lost. :-). Instead we chilled and watched TV. I love nights like that. Nights like that are too few and far between now since I work mostly nights at the theater.

This week though is different. I normally work Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, along with two weekend nights thrown in. This weekend though, I am only working on Saturday morning. I can't say I was too pleased at first since I love working weekend nights (no really, I do), but the time off and especially nights off are awesome. Tonight Dolores and I continue our annual tradition of attending the Archbishop Molloy (Stanners) vs. Christ The King (Royals) Basketball game. See, those schools are huge basketball rivals and of course we ended up going to said schools. (I went to the superior Archbishop Molloy for those wondering). It's always a fun night. We root for opposing teams. This is the third year we've been going and the two teams are tied at one. Molloy won the first game at CK in dramatic fashion. After trailing by 20-something points at the half they came back to win in OT. Sadly, one year later at AMHS, CK won. That's really all I remember about it. This is the rubber match tonight. The teams will be playing at CK and hopefully the Stanners will come out on top. If they don't, I will go into hiding. Guarenteed. Maybe I'll update later after the game about the game. We'll see. I also still will blog about Along Came Polly and the NYR memories blog. Later though :-). Enjoy your Friday night.

Big Fish

As promised, here is my little review of Big Fish.

I work in a movie theater and often at work I am asked what a certain movie is about, or if it is a comedy, action movie etc. When people ask me about Big Fish I tell them, you can't categorize it. It really can't be included into one genre what it is. In it's simplest, it is a movie about a man, Ed Bloom, who is dying. His son, Will, who hasn't spoken to his father since he got married, comes home to be with his father. Will finally talks to his father and wants to know the real him. See, Ed has NEVER told a true story. He embellishes every story he has told Will thinks everything his father has said is completely false. That's the reason he stopped talking to his father, because he never told the truth. During the movie, we see Ed's version of his stories, and in the end, we learn that the story wasn't that far from what he said. Will thought everything he ever said was false, that all the facts of his life haven't been told, but he realizes that his father was telling the truth, just with a few embellishments here and there.

I know I may not be the best at writing a movie's synopsis, so lucky for you, that part is done. I would however like to comment on the movie. Simply put, it is one of the best movies I have seen. People have compared it to Forrest Gump, and I can see why they would, but it's a totally different movie. On the surface it seems to be a movie about one man's fantasy world, but you watch it and it's a really deep movie. Who is Ed Bloom? That's what Will wanted to know. While talking to his father, and going through his father's letters and information from the past he sees the basic truths are there. He sees that his father isn't lying about THINGS that happened (for instance working in a circus) but HOW things happened or WHAT things happened (the circus master being a werewolf). It is the search for truth in fantasy, and as Will learns, that sometimes the fantasy is more helpful to the person, than the truth could be. That you can protect yourself, your heart and soul, better in fantasy than in truth. I know this probably makes no sense and as I write this I wonder if anyone reading will understand.

That's my take on it though. You have to see it. My review in four words: I loved this movie. I would definitely see it again. I'd give it without question 4 stars. It's just a great movie. I took so much out of it and the more times I see it the more I would get from it. Of course, a great story does not a movie make, and the acting was fabulous, especially Ewan McGregor. Give him an award or something. If not for Return of the King, I'd totally nominate this for picture of the year. Go see this movie. NOW!!

Wednesday

Today is Wednesday and I have absolutely nothing to say. I wanted to blog anyway just because I know if I don't get into the habit of doing it, I won't ever blog, and I like blogging. It lets me just write about anything I want to. Right now though, I have nothing to say. Let's talk about something though. Ok, lately I've been listening to a lot of Steve Miller. I had his greatest hits CD lying around my apartment and I haven't listened to it in at least a year. I just took with me for something to listen to in my car and I loved it. I listened to it for a good week or so and I didn't tire of it. I'm sure most of you have heard of some of his songs, like The Joker, or Fly Like and Eagle but one song on there really stands out for me, Winter Time. I don't know what it is, but I just love this song. Everytime I hear it, I don't know, it just gets me going. It's got a great chord progression, lyrics, melody, it just grooves. I really can't explain it any better. Definitely download this song.

That's all I have to say really. I plan on doing a review of Big Fish in the near future and of the movie I saw on Monday night, Along Came Polly. Also, maybe a New York Rangers blog of awesome stuff I've seen at the Garden. We'll see.

First Day of School

Tomorrow is the first day of the spring semester at St. John's and for the first time since I can remember, I won't be going back to school after Christmas. I know I will probably say this a lot in the coming weeks, but I'll say it now. It feels weird. I am not going back to school. I was visiting Dolores in the dorms and I just felt out of place. I don't go here anymore. It's WEIRD. I don't quite know how to put it in words.

When most people are waking up tomorrow morning to go to class, I will be in my room, in my pj's, most likely on the computer. I am officially done with classes. Everyone I considered a close friend is still going to St. John's (except Joe). I will never run into my friends again in Sullivan Hall or sitting in Marillac Terrace. It's weird. Ok, I will stop saying that now. I just always wanted to graduate, and now that I have, I kind of miss it. I won't miss studying for tests or bitchy teachers, but I will miss thr atmosphere. Also, does this mean I'm grown up now? Maybe not until I get a "real job" but I am done with school and I won't ever be a college student ever. I know I might still go back to school, but never in an atmosphere like this. If you are in your last semester right now, I hope you enjoy it. If you're not, then enjoy it more! To all my friends going to classes tomorrow, I hope you have fun, and when finals roll around, don't mind if I'm laughing too hard hahaha. :-). Enjoy the semester.

American Idol Thoughts

The third season of American Idol is starting as I type and as usual they start of the season with the auditions. If anyone has watched this show then they would know that the auditions are the most hilarious things ever televised. I mean, the fact that these people think they can sing and then produce the most horrific sounds ever heard is just really funny. That's all I really have to say about it. It's on again tomorrow night and if you want a good laugh then watch it.

On a totally unrelated note, happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day to everyone reading.

Something's Gotta Give

I've seen about 10 movies since I've started working at my theater. Some have been awesome, some have sucked royally and some have been just OK. I think this one would go into the OK category.

Something's Gotta Give is basically a story about an old guy (Jack Nicholson) who is going out with a younger girl (Amanda Peet) and they end up going to her summer house where her mother (Diane Keaton) is also staying. Well, hilarity ensues when Jack Nicholson starts falling for Diane Keaton who is also being courted by Keanu Reeves. As with most "romantic comedies", some sort of problem happens where Girl is mad at Guy A and goes with Guy B until Guy A makes up. Ok, that sentance made no sense, but you get the idea. There's the synopsis. If you want a better one, click on the Something's Gotta Give link a few lines up.

Now, I thought the movie was pretty good. It was funny in some parts. The problem was, I was too young to watch the movie. When Dolores and I saw it, the people watching with us had to have an average age of 70. No joke. It's a movie totally for senior citizens. I noticed when working that an overwhelming number of seniors bought for this movie. If I was 70 watching this movie I'm sure I'd find it hilarious too, but as a 21 year old, I guess some parts I just thought were stupid. Anyway, that sounds way too negative, and I did enjoy it for the most part. In my rankings of movies Dolores and I have been to (yes we rank every movie we've seen together) it ranks about 25 of 40. Take from that what you will. I'll give it a 5 out of 10. There were some funny parts and I did laygh and enjoy it. So there ya go.

Next movie I have to "review" is Big Fish which is just an amazing movie. I am also going to see Along Came Polly in a few days so expect a review of that too. Have a nice day!

Vacation

SOOOOO, what has it been, a month? Well, I am going to try to blog more often. I really like doing it and want to do it, it's just that life has been busy lately. Christmas season, going upstate, working close to a million hours a week, looking for jobs, and just interest in getting things done around the apartment. I guess you'd like to know what I've been up to this past month? Well that is a blog for another day. Here's a short synopsis though

  • I finished off college for good with a cumulative 3.89 GPA.
  • I worked a lot, but I actually LIKE working there so it's all good!
  • Took a lightning trip to Orange County to see the family on Christmas Day
  • Went to dinner the night after Christmas with Dolores, and her family/friends.
  • Went upstate again, this time for two days on the 29th and 30th
  • HAPPY NEW YEARS!!! Went to a party w/D and her family. Awesome time
  • Went to a Knicks game on the 8th with my friend, John, and had a blast, even though the Knicks lost by a truckload.
  • Went upstate for a third time on the 12th and 13th.
  • Went to an awesome NYR vs. NYI game. Great time LETS GO RANGERS!!
  • Started Blogging again?

Well, we'll see about that last one. I really am gonna try to do it daily, even if it's just a few paragraphs. Upcoming blogs should be about the movies I've seen this past month, what I've been up to post SJU, random things, etc etc. Well, have a nice day!
