This Could be the Last Time

Since I have only 2 more hours at most of schooling left in my collegiate career, one tends to get a little nostaligic. Last night I sung in my last ever Christmas Concert as an active member of the St. John's Mixed Chorus. The concert itself wasn't too memorable, it was afterwards that it hit me. I looked around and noticed all the people I was talking too. They had all graduated already. I talked to hardly anyone that still went to SJU. I guess it hit me that I'm getting older and that soon, I too, will be an alumnus. So I bid a fond farewell to the choir by just leaving and saying goodbye to hardly anyone, save those who had already graduated. So my career in chorus went out with a whimper, and I really couldn't have cared less. I really haven't enjoyed chorus like I used to. Freshman and sophomore year it was so fun. I loved it. Since then it was like pulling teeth to go. I had to go last year due to the grant but this year I went maybe 5 times total. It that. So last night I realized that all I have now of chorus, and of school are memories. I am not an SJU student in 3 weeks. How weird is that?

In other news, the SJU men's soccer team lost in the finals of the NCAA tournemant. My comments on that? It sucks balls.

In other other news, Saddam Hussein was captured by the US. I think this is awesome, I got a huge sense of pride when I heard that. I hope that Saddam gets whats coming to him.

Gotta go now, I'll blog again later :).

The Missing

No school tomorrow so that means I can stay up late tonight to do things, like blog :-). This afternoon Dolores and I went to see the move The Missing. As a sidenote, that's one perk of working in a theater, the free movies every week ;-). Anyway, I enjoyed the movie. It was a little slow in the beginning of the movie but picked up by the end of the first hour. In brief, it's about a woman (Cate Blanchett) who's daughter (some girl) is kidnapped by a band of rogue Native Americans. So Maggie (Cate's character in the movie) goes out in search of her daughter with her other younger daughter. Throw in Tommy Lee Jones as the "Native American father who was never there for his daughter but in a shocking ironic twist must help his daughter." All in all it was a pretty decent movie. If you're going for action then this is not the movie to see. It's sort of like a mystery/drama/western. Ron Howard did a really good job of it though, for what it's worth. Let's give it an official 6/10.

Dolores might rate it a little lower. 10 minutes into the movie she was telling me how boring it was, she fell asleep halfway through and at the end of the movie, the last lines spoken by Maggie were something like, "let's go home." No sooner had she said this, Dolores said, "okay," put on her coat and left. She is hilarious like that. I had such a fun time at the movies with her. She's so funny. I think she'd officially give The Missing a 1 out of 10. Just a guess though :-).

To people at SJU, enjoy your study day today, to everyone else just enjoy your day.

God Bless Us Everyone

How many other people reading walked about 2 miles in the snow today? Well, I did! It was fun too. I felt like an adventurer of some sort trekking through the shin-high snow while everyone else I knew stayed in. Anyway, today was loads of fun. I walked from my apartment to D's room, then to the bank and Thriftway (where I got a small Christmas tree for like 4 bucks) then walked back to the dorms then to the bus, then a block in the city to MSG where I saw A Christmas Carol (more on that in a few) and then like 20 blocks to see the tree in Rockafeller Center. Let me tell, after walking through the city like that I can safely say that there is nothing like Christmas in the city. It's just festive.

Anyway, Dolores and I went to see A Christmas Carol today and once again it was such a blast. It was Dolores' first time seeing and she loved it too. I've seen it like 6 times out of it's ten year run and I have never gone home disappointed. It always leaves me with a sense of what Christmas is all about, and just a nice reminder of life in general. No matter what you can always change and always become a kind giving person. Someone who cares about other people other than themselves. It's such a great story. The show is unbelievable too. I'm sad that it's in its last year. You definitely have to go see it if you get the chance. The songs are fantastic and after seeing it you will be humming it (much like I'm doing now!) It's definitely the strongest of recommendations to see. As Tiny Tim says, God Bless us everyone.

Let It Snow

The snow is falling. It's so pretty when it falls. Brief thought aside, I'd like to take a few minutes to say how awesome my day has turned out. I think it all started yesterday. I got my paycheck and saw an AWESOME movie with Dolores at my theater: Love Actually. Now, this may seem like a chick flick at first sight but the movie was really quite deep. It deals with the relationships of about 10 couples (no joke) and the dynamics between the 20 or so people is done quite well. Guys who read this, suck it up and go see it. It's good.

Onto today, I went to two classes, HTML (which is my only final-bleh) and two hours later Calculus III which I left early from after getting exempt. It was snowing when I left Calc and I was wondering if I should call in sick to work to see the SJU soccer game (foreshadowing, folks). After that I met with Dolores, worked on a website design for a wrestling website with Joe while Dolores was in class, then ate lunch with Dolores. After that I took a swank nap. After I woke up I walked to my car, brushed all the 3 inches of snow off of my car, and drove to my apartment. Cool Moment #1 of the day. I got to my apartment and I had a message on the machine. Naturally I checked it and it turned out to be one of my managers from work. She told me that a) I didn't have to come into work tomorrow (YES!) and b) the Staff meeting tomorrow morning at 8:00 was cancelled! YES! How awesome is that? I figure that I'm free to go to the soccer game tonight even though the weather was horrible. I'd battle through it to see the best team SJU has to offer play for the Final Four. Cool Moment #2 of the day. I check RedStorm Sports and see the game was postponed to Sunday afternoon at 1. Yes Sunday afternoon when I don't have work.

Yes things are turning out quite well this weekend. Work tonight was cancelled, Soccer was postoned to a better day, I'm going to see A Christmas Carol now in it's tenth and final season, soccer game on Sunday afternoon followed by six hours of work. It should be a really awesome weekend. Enjoy the snow!!!

December Thoughts

Well, December is here! LET THE SNOW BEGIN! Of course, with December comes the winding down of the Fall Semester. This one is a little different than the last three fall semesters, in my case at least. This time it will be my last :(. I won't be back at SJU anymore! Other than that, it's still the same. Finals and stress. I was about to get out of both by going 5 for 5 with being exempt this year but my HTML teacher dicked me over big time. Turns out you need a 90 or better on the last test to be considered, even though I aced the previous two and all grades taken into account I had a 95. Oh well, she's a bitch anyway. But enough of that. December is here, Christmas is in a few weeks, SNOW is on the way and life is beautiful. I have a bunch of Christmas decorations to buy and put up around my house and I can't wait. I also have 8 VHS tapes full of old Christmas specials/cartoons. Seriously it's over 50 hours worth. I love Christmas season.

You know, one thing I've always associated with Christmas is the weather. Living in New York you know it's always cold during Christmas season (WELL D'UH, Tom!), but Dolores and I were talking about people in California or Florida. To them it's like 80-90 degrees on Christmas day. They can enjoy Christmas by going to the beach or whatever. As we were talking about this I found it really hard for me to even grasp that. Imagine that? I can't even fathom Christmas lights on a house in weather that isn't cold. In Phoenix for example, they have their Christmas lights up and they can put the lights up in their shorts! How crazy is that? It's just I've been conditioned to equating cold and Christmas. As I said before, I can't fathom wearing shorts outside during Christmas. If you remember, last Christmas it was literally a blizzard out there. That's the only way I think of Christmas...as cold. That's the way I like it too. Merry Christmas and to all you people who wear shorts in 80 Degree weather on Christmas Day, you're really missing out! :-)

Holy Roller

Hello! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and weekend. I know I did. Even though the parents ditched me at the Farley's House it was all good. I had turkey, brought home a lot of leftovers and had a great time just being able to hang out with Dolores for the weekend. Any by golly, yesterday I saw THE GREATEST soccer game ever. St. John's won in a thrilling double overtime game after Ryan Kelly slipped one past the goalie in something like the 3,000th minute. I can't wait for the game on Friday. Also, how do you like this new font? Let me know.

Anyway, it's December 1st now and that means that Christmas will soon be upon us. That also means that Advent is here. Advent really is a cool time of year. The churches are all decorated with Christmas trees and what not and it's just a great time to go to church, which made me realize that I haven't been going as much as I would like. I really like going to church and since I've started working I haven't been going that much. I usually work on Saturday and Sunday night so I've been saying, "Oh, I'll go Sunday morning or during the week sometime," and of course I never do. I just hope that after Advent (when I'll go every week) that I can keep that up for a full year even if I do work on Sunday and Saturday night. That's my goal for next year, to go to church every week.
